Selling a junk car on the ridge
Munster calls itself the Town on the Ridge, and the ridge is real. Ridge Road follows the Calumet Shoreline, an old edge of Lake Michigan from long before anyone paved it. Town Hall is on Ridge Road, the town’s historic main street.
Plenty of junk cars aren’t wrecks. They’re daily drivers that quietly stopped being worth fixing: an engine that runs hot, a dash that lights up like a pinball machine, a test the car can no longer pass. Those are exactly the cars we buy. You send the details, we call with an offer, the tow is free, and you’re paid at pickup.
How Munster is laid out, for a pickup
A few landmarks make it easy to tell us where the car is:
- ZIP 46321. It’s Munster’s ZIP and it also shows up on lists of Hammond ZIPs, so the street address is what really places you.
- Calumet Avenue is the main north-south road. North of the Borman Expressway it becomes U.S. 41.
- The Little Calumet River marks Munster’s northern edge, with Hammond on the other side.
- Ridge Road is the old shoreline and the historic main street, with Town Hall on it.
- Community Hospital is in Munster, along with Centennial Park, built on a former landfill and opened in 2007 with a nine-hole golf course, and the Bieker Woods nature area.
- The South Shore Line now stops in town: the Munster Ridge station opened on 31 March 2026 on the new Monon Corridor.
If the car is “near the hospital” or “just off Calumet by the Borman”, that’s a good start. We still need the house number, but it tells us which part of town to plan for.
The state line is right there
Munster’s western edge is the Illinois border. Across it are Lansing and Lynwood. That matters for one reason: addresses near the line can look alike, and a truck sent to the wrong state wastes your afternoon. Put the full street address and town on the form and it won’t happen.
Three kinds of car we buy in Munster
Cars that overheat. Coolant disappearing with no puddle under the car, white smoke that doesn’t clear, oil that looks like a milkshake on the dipstick: those are classic head gasket signs, and the repair often costs more than an older car is worth. Our page on cars that overheat or have a failed head gasket explains how we buy them as they are.
Cars that failed emissions. Lake County still tests gasoline cars every other year, and an older car that fails can leave you choosing between repairs, a waiver and selling. The Lake County emissions testing guide lays out where things stand in 2026, with dates.
Cars that sat. A second car parked in the driveway through a winter or two, battery flat, tyres soft. It doesn’t need to start for us to buy it.
Pickup notes for Munster
Driveway or street? Say which. If it’s in a garage, tell us whether the door opens and whether there’s room in front of it.
Other people’s rules. If you live somewhere with an association or a managed lot, check whether they want notice before a tow truck comes in. Tell us, and we’ll plan the pickup time with that in mind.
Paperwork. A signed title is simplest. No title? We can still help. Indiana wants either the title (a BMV duplicate is $15) or a BMV certificate of authority ($4), and a car under 15 model years old legally needs one of the two. Say what papers you have and we’ll confirm the route on the call.
Next door in Highland
Munster and Highland share a border and a lot of the same roads, Ridge Road included. If your car is over there, the Highland page covers that side, including the low ground by the Little Calumet River that has a history of flooding. Both are part of the four towns we cover around the Hammond, Indiana area.
When you’re ready, request an offer or use the form on this page. Car first, then your name, phone and the Munster address.
